Mail It Monday #16

Mail It Monday #16

happy monday!

anybody else wondering how it is already february? part of me feels like january lasted 87 days and the other part of me feels like yesterday was new years day! it's truly crazy how fast time flies - especially compared to when you're a kid.

the card i made + mailed last week was inspired by a gift! a friend of mine gave me a notebook because she knows that i love all the organizational things - and the cover of it has rainbow stripes with the sentiment "rainbow is my favorite color." truly it couldn't be more perfect for me! i was so surprised and i just love it so much! below is a snippet of what it looks like.

i wanted to make her a thank you card, but i didn't want the card to specifically say "thank you." [in my head, when i send people cards they display them as tiny works of art, so i prefer to use sentiments that can be inspirational when i can. i'm well aware most cards get thrown away but a girl can dream.]

i started my inspiration with a handful of products - mainly paper - from lawn fawn. this paper pad has so many great patterns, i go to it again and again. a new product in my stash is this pearlescent vellum that i'd been saving for just the right project. i decided to use the vellum instead of a silver accent so while similar to the notebook, it wasn't the exact same.

i knew i wanted to use a sentiment from this stamp set - cathy zielske has the most amazing stamps, nearly perfect for any and every occasion! because the sentiment fit perfectly on the scrap of paper, i decided to use horizontal stripes instead of vertical ones like on the notebook. to add a little visual interest, i die-cut the rainbow paper with a stitched edge detail - another go-to look for me! using the pearlescent vellum, i die-cut a star.

i stamped the sentiment near the top of the rectangle and angled the star half on the block and half on the card base. i only adhered two corners of the star and used a pencil to roll the edges of the star inward, so they would lift off of the card base. everything was adhered to a white cardstock base. i added hand-drawn lines in a soft grey around the top, right side, and bottom of the card front - keeping in line with the block of patterned paper. i still didn't think it was enough, so i added a smattering of these iridescent mini stars, which mirrored the shine and shimmer of the vellum.

i really liked the way the card came together, but still felt like it needed something. i added a sentiment to the inside. each and every time i do this, i think i need to do it more often. it's like a little surprise just waiting to be found. the sentiment came from that same cathy zielske stamp set and i think coordinates perfectly.

so that is the card - outside and inside. it's definitely not my most complex card ever, but i tried a few new products and i'm sure my friend liked it. and that's the most important thing!

this week i have plans to find some inspiration in various online challenges. it's been on my list of things to do and now that i've already lost a month of the year, i figured it's time!

in case you need a few reasons to send some snail mail this week, here are a few not-so-well-known national holidays, totally worth celebrating:

february 4 - national thank a mail carrier day - what a great day to celebrate those who help deliver our snail mail!

february 6 - national frozen yogurt day - what's your favorite flavor?

february 7 - national send a card to a friend day - what a great day! i totally plan to celebrate!

february 9 - national pizza day - definitely gonna celebrate this one too!

february 10 - national umbrella day - hopefully you won't need to use an umbrella!

if not before then, i'll see you back here next monday for more snail mail adventures!
