happy monday friends! i hope your week is off to a marvelous start!
i'm super jazzed to share one of the cards that i made + mailed last week with you. sunday was my niece's 18th birthday [how?!] and i wanted to make her a card that was fun and colorful without being super kid-ish.
i pulled out a handful of my distress inks including squeezed lemonade, picked raspberry, wilted violet and salty ocean to blend from one color to the next. once the blend was the way that i wanted it, i lightly spritzed it with some water and then dabbed away the excess. i love the marks it left behind!
above the blended portion of the white panel, i added in a narrow, thin strip of glittery silver cardstock. this is my favorite cardstock that doesn't shed glitter anywhere! it's smooth and so glitzy!
using some stamps from papertrey ink, i added in three candles with black ink to make them stand out on the white background. i purposely stamped them on angles as i didn't want them all to be the same. i die-cut the numbers 1 & 8 to create 18 near the right side of the card panel.
on the inside of the card i added in a white panel that matched the front of the card. i used black ink to stamp "happy birthday" near the top middle and i wrote my message [not shown] to my niece below it. i also added another thin strip of the glittery silver goodness to the bottom of the white panel where it meets the black card base.
as an added fun element i tucked in 18 instant lottery tickets for her to scratch off and hopefully win! my momma did the same thing for me when i turned 18 and i thought it would be a fun little tradition!
when getting ready to mail the card, i decided to use a black envelope! i pulled out a white gel pen to address it and i selected postage stamps that coordinated with the card design. this is one of my favorite things to do when i'm sending mail and i can never get enough different designs of postage stamps! if you haven't checked out what's available from the usps, do it now! so many cool options, especially for the upcoming holidays! i tend to order pretty frequently and they always arrive quickly.
i thought that these colors on the john lennon stamps blended so well and they reminded me of the front panel of the card that i created.
to make one more detail stand out, i cut another piece of the silver glittery cardstock to use as a envelope seal. i applied some super strong adhesive and covered the flap on the back. just one more fun little detail to coordinate with the card on the inside.
i hope that my niece not only had an amazing day celebrating, but that she got the card and loved it as much as i enjoyed making it. it's so hard for me to believe she's already 18 - i remember the night she was born like it was yesterday. crazy how time flies! she's turned into an amazing human and i know she's going to do incredible things. love that girl.
