mail it whatday #25

anyone else feel like they don't know what day of the week it is?

in case you've lost count, this is the fourth week of #quarantine2020 and i'm a day late because i honestly forgot what day of the week it was. [my work schedule has changed a little and i'll be able to enjoy an extra day off so i'm really looking forward to that - and hoping to use that time to create!]

the card i'm sharing today is one that took two attempts to make and ended up looking nothing like the first version. while still slightly wet, the first one slipped to the ground and the carpet smeared the ink so it was unusable.

the next one [shown below] was created with suggestions for colors and embellishments from my laura, who is of course my go-to when i'm super indecisive.

i just started playing around with various techniques, but i am absolutely loving the way that this card turned out. i stamped the sentiment in black ink onto watercolor paper before using a clear powder to heat emboss it. it's a matte finish powder and i love the subtle detail it gives.

then i ran the watercolor panel through my die cut machine with an embossing folder. i think i actually used it backwards, but i like the way it turned out. i smooshed three distress ink onto my craft mat, [chipped sapphire, blueprint sketch and wilted violet] and spritzed them with water.

using a watercolor brush, i picked up some of the colors and painted them onto the raised portions of the embossed pattern. i added layer after layer to intensify the color as well as add a cool texture. there was no rhyme or reason to the hexagons i selected, i just worked my way around the panel.

when the distress inks were dry, i used some heidi swapp color spray to flick gold spots across the panel. i have always liked the combination of purple and gold - very regal in my mind. the smattering of gold adds a nice detail without taking away from the overall design.

while this card used a plethora of techniques, i'm thrilled with the way it turned out. it definitely rejuvenated my mojo! i'm looking forward to trying something similar again in the very near future.

this one went to my boss because i wanted to express my gratitude for all the ways he's been going above and beyond over the last few weeks. i'm really grateful.

i'm trying to send as much happy mail as possible and i'm also really looking forward to #the100dayproject - stay tuned for those posts.
