#the100dayproject : 21/100

social media can be an amazing thing!

a few months back i saw a design on a card that blew me away - so i looked to see what products were used and i'm fairly certain that right there and then i pushed the "add to cart" button.

fast forward a few months and here we are. i have an idea for a series of cards [details coming soon] and i wanted to incorporate the use of stencils. i rediscovered the product i purchased months ago and decided to play around a bit.

a friend made the suggestion to use purple and blue inks, so i went with that idea instead of using a color swatch.

i used several shades of distress ink [wilted violet, salty ocean and blueprint sketch] and started lighter at the top and gradually got darker towards the bottom portion of the panel. i wasn't thrilled with the way the pattern was cutting off of the sides of the panel, so i decided to die-cut it with one of the stitched rectangle dies that i love so much.

the sentiment was stamped onto a lime green panel that had also been die cut with a faux-stitched edge, but the sides are cut off. [note to self - find a horizontal die that will work and fit on a vertical card!] stamped in black ink, the sentiment reads : "isn't it amazing that we both have such awesome friend?" and the entire green strip is elevated off of the card base with foam tape.

even though the background is a little busier than some others i've recently made, i thought that it needed a little something, so i added a triangular formation of sparkling clear sequins. they just make me so happy!

because the card base is black, i needed to add something to the inside so that when the sender writes a message it will be visible to the recipient. i decided to use the same bright green from the sentiment strip and i die-cut it from the same stitched panel as the card front.

i love when the details of the front of the card carry into the inside. i'm also including a purple envelope which coordinates quite nicely.

i tend to forget how versatile stencils are and i know that i want to explore this one with a handful of different ink combinations. it's just so interesting to look at, i think.

with a few days off left this week, i'm really looking forward to some creative time and working on a handful of additional projects. i hope you'll come back and check them out.

today marks day 21 down, 79 left to go!
