while there are so many negative feelings surrounding #quarantine2020, i do think that an abundance of good has occurred as well. for example, i've seen a ton of inspiring cards, art projects, inspirational quotes and overall positive motivation all over social media. many of these things are inspiring me and carrying over to my cards during #the100dayproject.
today's card is an example of just that. two of my favorite card makers, jennifer mcguire & kristina werner have held two sessions of online card classes and while i haven't taken them yet, i've kept up on people sharing their projects on instagram. one guest was the amazing laura bassen and i've mentioned how much i adore her and her love of rainbows. she also finds the most innovative ways to create cards with products already in your stash! i decided to try my hand at something she designed and it turned out pretty well [i think!]
i used my stitched circle dies to cut out a variety of circles. i paired the cool colors up on top and the warmer colors together on the bottom. after trimming each circle in half, i layered them on top of one another, pushing them all against one edge of the circle. then, i rotated the other section so that the circles were on opposite sides. i die-cut the rectangular strip and stamped the sentiment "i'm so freaking happy you were born" on it with black ink. [my rectangular die has had so much use that sometimes it's hard to get the paper out of the die and i feel like it has a slight warped effect so i need to figure out how to remedy that.]
i love the way the colors pair together and the stitching on the rectangle mimics the stitching on the circles. it's just such an incredible subtle detail that i love. i want to stitch all the things!
i used foam tape to adhere the sentiment strip to the base to try and help even out the saying. where the circles are stacked on the far left and far right caused a bit of dimension! the sentiment strip is the same color as the card base - a light grey which really lets the colors stand out. this is another favorite so far in this project.
the sentiment would be ideal as a birthday card, or as an everyday card! i thought about adding "happy birthday" on the inside, but decided against it. this way, it can be used for any occasion or as an everyday celebration of someone's existence.
a few things are for certain with the cards of this challenge - i love color. circles and stitched details will never get old. there's no wrong reason to mail some handmade happiness.
