day number 20 - we're 1/5 the way through this project! woot woot! buttttttttt that also means there's only 80 days left until the end of the year - yikes!
i was pretty jazzed when the inspiration wheel landed on pattern play today - i've been itching for a reason to use coordinating patterns. one of my favorite ways to do this is to utilize 6x6 paper pads. generally speaking, the colors coordinate and often share patterns/themes that mix well together. plus, the designs are smaller than traditional 12x12 pages so they look amazing on cards!
doodlebug designs is a company i've loved for nearly 20 years and despite making a christmas card the other day, i'm really embracing the fall/autumn feeling. i decided to make a thank you card with seasonal colors and patterns. this card was inspired by pinterest and a design that shared a hexagonal base.
i began with the kraft panel for the front of the card and i de-bossed the hexagonal texture onto the cardstock. selecting a variety of patterned papers, i cut more hexagons out using the same die-cut. then, i randomly adhered the patterned pieces onto some of the hexagonal spaces, creating small clusters. several of the hexagons were adhered using foam adhesive for additional dimension.
using a small stamp, i added "thank you" in brown ink near the right middle, slightly overlapping several hexagon indentations. i also used the same ink to add a couple small acorns which coordinate with one of the patterned papers.
using a die-cut from lawn fawn, i cut the word "thanks" out of brown cardstock as well as from green fun foam. then, i layered them together while remaining slightly offset from one another. they were placed near the center of the card panel, slightly closer to the bottom. i added a handful of brown enamel dots in a variety of sizes and shades of brown across the front panel.
the entire kraft panel was adhered onto a wine colored card base. i feel like between the warm, jewel-ish toned colors and the patterns including leaves, acorns and woodgrain - this card screams fall and i absolutely love it. there's so many details that just make me so happy.
while this card is a little busier than some of my normal cards, i am loving the way that it turned out. there's so many options for duplicates using the same techniques - from the de-bossing and die-cut elements to the variety of patterned papers and sentiments. i might just have to come back to this one again and again!
one can never have too many thank you cards! you can pick this one up here.
20 down, 80 to go!
