#the100dayproject : handmade card 57/100-2 : happy birthday

happy wednesday friends!

today's spin on the inspiration wheel landed on birthday card so i pulled some paper that coordinates with the paper that i used on this card. i also decided to reference a sketch because a small part of me is starting to think that all of my cards look the same - yikes.

A colorful handmade birthday card, ideal for helping them celebrate! A white card base lays the groundwork for a block of patterned paper which features a rainbow of horizontal stripes with thin white lines dividing between them. The words "happy birthday" are stamped in black about 2/3 down the block in black ink. Near the top right corner is a circle of white paper with a black linear design of floral images. The same pattern continues on a thin strip extending from the right side above the sentiment. A wonky black circle has been stamped around the circular patterned piece. Layered beneath the card is a white envelope which is also included.

the main focal point on this card is a block of colorful, horizontally striped patterned paper. there's thin white lines between the colors which blends nicely with the white card base. about two thirds down the block, aligned on the right side is the sentiment, "happy birthday" stamped in black ink.

near the top right corner of the card is a circle that features a linear black floral design with a stamped black border around it. the floral pattern continues on a thin strip, located just above the sentiment.

An up close view of the colorful details on the front of this birthday card. Horizontal stripes run sideways and "happy birthday" is stamped in black ink over the top of them. A circle with a linear black floral pattern is near the top right corner of the card with a stamped circle around it.

one thing that i like is when the black and white pattern is trimmed to a thin strip, the pattern itself becomes a little hard to decipher. it just looks like lines and random shapes but is still visually interesting. meanwhile, at the top of the card in the circular shape it's a little clearer to see. i think it's a fun little [slightly unexpected] element on this otherwise simple card.

around the circle at the top is a stamped circle that's somewhat incomplete - it's from a newer stamp set that i can't wait to really use [it's so fun!] i like the way that it brings your eye to the circle while creating a nice border around it, making it a little easier to see where it starts and ends.

"Happy Birthday" is stamped in black ink on a colorful patterned block with horizontal stripes. Thin white lines separate the colored blocks and blend in with the clean white background. A circle with a black and white floral pattern is near the top of the card and has a black stamped border around it. It's a very clean and simple design yet quite visually pleasing.

as i've mentioned several times in past posts, birthday cards are some of my favorites to make. they always seem to be some of my best sellers and i think even hallmark would agree that they're one type of card that people send most often. for this reason i like them to be fun, bright and colorful and i hope that they make the recipient's special day a little bit brighter!

this will soon be added to the birthday collection in my online shop. in addition to the cards of #the100dayproject, i'm busy cranking out new styles and designs for the two virtual events i'm participating in next weekend for black friday, small business saturday and cyber monday. it's going to be awesome and i hope you'll continue to follow along!
