#the100dayproject : handmade card 61/100-2 : don't worry

Posted by Kerry Wills on

why is it that the weekends go so fast and the week days go so slowly? i can hardly believe the weekend is already over.

i managed to knock out a chunk of things from my to-make list these past few days, but there's still so many things i want to accomplish before this weekend and the two virtual events. fingers crossed i can get them done - and listed! that's always the challenge.

today's spin on the inspiration wheel landed on one layer card and i pulled out a newer stamp set that arrived last week. it's not my normal type of stamp set so i thought that it would provide a good challenge. i have to admit that i love the way today's card turned out and so i decided i'll make a few additional varieties that may coordinate with it. i'm not typically one who abbreviates words or says things like "4 u" in text or email, so we will see how things go. often i have to remind myself that it isn't about me and what i like - as i try to design and create things that a wide assortment of customers will appreciate.

This handmade card combines a word sentiment with images and clues to piece together the secondary sentiment. A white card base is accented on three sides by a variety of circles, stamped in black ink in two patterns; small tiny dots and what looks to be a paintbrush stroke. near the top middle of the card are the words "don't worry" in a black typewriter font. Below that are three circles; yellow, lime green and then grass green from left to right. The yellow circle has the image of a bee, the lime green says HA+ and the grass green circle has the image of a pea. All together, the sentiment reads "don't worry be happy." The colors are so vibrant and play well with the classic black and white design. A bright green envelope is shown and is included as well.

i just love the way that black and white work well together and even more so when you add in a splash of color - like on this card front. the card base is bright white and centered near the top are the words "don't worry" in a classic typewriter font in crisp black ink. beneath them are three circles - with images and words creating a sort of puzzle to finish the sentiment. all together it reads "don't worry be happy"

the yellow circle has the image of a bee, then to the right on the middle green circle are the letters ha with a + sign and the final circle that's a darker green has the image of a pea. on three of the four sides are black circles that fade off of the sides of the card front creating a visual triangle which moves your eye around the card.

An angled view of the front panel on this handmade card features three colorful circles in shades of yellow, lime green and grass green. On each of the circles is an image or a series of letters that combine to form a sentiment, along with the stamped words above them. When reading the entire card front, it reads "don't worry be happy" The black and white classic design is timeless and this card is sure to make the recipient smile.

this design is simple, but i just love the way it turned out. the colors are so vibrant - [pinkfresh studio inks for the win again!] like i mentioned above, i definitely think there will be a few other styles/varieties of these added to the shop later this week. these encouraging and uplifting cards are just the type to make someone's day. i recognize that unless you're gifting the cards to someone as a set, nobody will necessarily know that they look similar, but that's something that appeals to me when creating more than one. i like the concept of same or similar design and just switching up a few elements like sentiment, color and minor details. you may or may not see some examples of that later this week. wink, wink!

i hope that if you're lucky enough to have a short work week this week that it goes smoothly - i only know part of my schedule so far, but at least i'll get thursday off as it's one of the two days a year the restaurant is closed. i'm looking forward to massive amounts of carbs in the form of potatoes, corn casserole, stuffing and pie. what fun plans do you have for the holiday? are you social distancing? celebrating in a small group? i can't wait to hear and see details throughout the week - and don't forget i'll be sharing lots of details and updates here, as well as on facebook and instagram.

happy thanksgiving week friends!
