#the100dayproject : handmade card 73/100-2 : thinking of you

happy friday friends! so happy that it's the freaking weekend!

i'm off all weekend [from the day/night job] and i'm pumped to work on some house projects as well as some crafty things, as well as finishing decorating! what big plans do you have?

today's spin on the inspiration wheel landed on pattern play and i have to admit that while i was working on creating the card, i kinda forgot what i was supposed to be doing. so it has some patterns, but if you focus solely on that element, it's a little boring. it happens, right?

This thinking of you style card combines several patterns via paper and washi tape along with a stamped image of a bowl of fruit. The sentiment "thinking of you" is stamped next to the bowl of cherries, above the block of tan and cream striped paper. Red and white polka dotted washi tape adds a little accent along the bottom portion of the card. The upper right corner of both the top panel and the turquoise card base have been rounded for additional detail. A kraft envelope is included and is show beneath the card.

i love the main stamp set that i used on this card - there's so many options for different fruits that can either be in the colander [as seen here], or in a variety of decorative bowls. i'm thinking i want to make a set of these cards - maybe the bowl color could coordinate with the color of the card base. we will have to see how that turns out...

but anyway, i decided to use the cherries and i had the colander coordinate with the card base. i rounded the upper right corner of both the cream colored panel and the card base for some slight detail. next to the bowl of cherries is the sentiment, "thinking of you" which is stamped in a light kraft color. the large block of patterned paper has an interesting color to it - the small thin stripes seem to be a cream, matching the panel. the wide stripes are a grey-brown-kraft color, but i think the block works - almost like a table cloth. i added a strip of red and white polka dotted washi tape which overlaps onto the turquoise card base. i think it helps draw your eye across the card. simple, but i like it.

An angled flat-lay of the card front where the sentiment and decorative elements are front and center. Stamped in kraft colored ink is the sentiment "thinking of you." A bowl of cherries sits to the right of the sentiment along the top edge of a decorative panel of striped cardstock.

i like the way that the red and turquoise work together - i don't think i ever would have picked them, but awhile back i accidentally picked up the wrong color ink and now i'm kinda digging the way they work together. in some ways this design feels very retro to me. plus the cherries just seem cheerful and i think that's an important vibe to have on a thinking of you style card.

the more i think about it, the more determined i am to create a little set of cards with bowls of fruit. perhaps each one with a different saying. i just think they'd look so fun next to one another. i feel drawn to sets of cards where each one coordinates with the next, even though more than likely the same person won't be receiving all of the cards to know what the others looked like. to me it makes sense - what do you think/prefer?

The one rounded corner on this card in the upper right corner adds a soft detail to the otherwise slightly harsh corners and edges. The sentiment "thinking of you" is stamped directly above the horizontal panel of diagonally striped patterned paper and washi tape accent. The bowl of cherries adds a cheerful vibe.

against the grey background in the above photo, i think the block of patterned paper looks more grey. but when i compare it to the kraft color of the sentiment, it takes on more of a creamy brown color. it must be similar to those internet tests where people are divided on what they see. either way - in either color - i think it looks good. i'm a big fan of the torn edge on the washi tape and both the dots and the red point to the cherries. everyone needs to be on the receiving end of a nice thinking of you card every now and again, right?

hard to believe this is day 73 - only 27 more to go - and in this year!
