#the100dayproject : handmade card 77/100-2 : out with the old

hey friends!

today's spin on the wheel of inspiration landed on sketch and i was pretty jazzed because i haven't used very many sketches during this round of the project. i went to my mini book of sketches and this is the one that siri helped select with a random number generator:

the sketch i'm using from mft stamps - a large circle accented by a narrow strip on a layered piece over the card base. i took some liberties with the sketch, but this was a nice foundation.

one thing that i love about sketches is the freedom of interpretation. i liked the layout of this design, but decided to flip the narrow [pink] strip 90 degrees so that it would be horizontal. i also eliminated the small scattered circles, ideally gems or sequins. ordinarily i would've kept them but i decided the patterns i selected to use had enough shine and bling!

A classic combination of black and white, this handmade new years themed card is accented by glitzy holographic cardstock and shimmer silver glitter. A large die-cut circle is half way down the card front near the left side, as if sliding down the vertical stretch of small black dots. The sentiment "out with the old - in with the new" is stamped in black ink above a glittery silver banner that holds the die-cut numbers "2021"

i'm thinking that we need more positivity going into the new year so i've been scheming card ideas since making this one the other day. today i thought i would try to replicate the ball that drops in new york city counting down to midnight with this fun, glitzy holographic cardstock. i die-cut a circle from it and layered it over a vertical stretch of stamped black dots. i thought it kinda looked like that tower that holds the ball up and flashes as it counts down. the sentiment "out with the old in with the new" is stamped in black ink above a shimmery silver glitter banner that holds the die-cut numbers 2021. the banner is elevated off of the card base with foam tape for added dimension.

Details of the holographic cardstock - as the light hits it, you can see the awesome pattern that creates a rainbow.

the detail on the glitzy holographic die-cut circle is so awesome. as the light hits it, the rainbow of colors dances around - it can be very visually busy, but i absolutely love it!

An angled flat-lay view of the new years handmade card. The holographic pattern on the large circle is so colorful and adds a bunch of visual interest. The sentiment reads "out with the old in with the new" above the die-cut numbers 2021 which are layered on a shimmery silver glitter banner.

i think that the combination of the holographic detail as well as the shimmery glittery banner is just enough wow factor to make this black and white card stand out.

in addition to the sentiment on the front of the card, i thought that it needed something on the inside as well.

The inside of this handmade card features a white panel with plenty of room for your personal message to your recipient beneath the stamped sentiment, "Happy New Year" in black ink.

"happy new year" is stamped in black ink near the top center of the interior white panel which allows lots of room for your personal message to your recipient.

i think that this will certainly make anyone smile - along with the well wishes for a happy new year. it's gotta be less intense than 2020, right? soon i'll be adding this and all the other recent cards into the online shop - i'm hoping for by the end of the weekend!

77 cards down, 23 to go! woot woot! thanks for stopping by!
