Mail It Monday #15

Mail It Monday #15

welcome back to another edition of my mail it monday series!

this week i'm featuring a card that i made + mailed last week after receiving a gift from a friend for my birthday. she got me this adorable necklace with the simple initial "k" - signifying kindness on the package, but also doubling as the initial of my name. i wanted to use that as my inspiration.

her name starts with the letter "a" and i remembered that i had the "awesome" stamp from an older lawn fawn set. [it's sold out on their site, but i have seen it on a few others, in case you are looking for it.]

i die-cut the letter "a" using my silhouette out of a font that resembled that of the stamp. using removable adhesive, i placed the letter in the center of a white cardstock panel. then i combined four shades of distress ink [picked raspberry, smoked hickory, black soot and wilted violet], slightly overlapping each color. i removed the initial to reveal the bright white background.

i spritzed a little water onto the background and let it sit for a minute before picking up the excess with a dry towel. since the distress ink reacts with water, the small dots of water removed portions on the color. then i took some of my heidi swapp color spray in a silver shade and sprinkled it onto the background. i wasn't overly thrilled with the three big globs of silver, but i left them alone. i did add a few smattering drops of white paint for a few highlights.

using black ink, i added the word "awesome" from the stamp set i mentioned above. i really like how stark the black is against the contrast of the blended background. i used some foam tape to elevate the panel off of the card base.

overall, i'm really happy with the way that it came together. i love using initials as a focal point and any excuse to ink blend is a good one for me!

i have a few things on my agenda this week and i'm looking forward to sharing and i encourage you to mail some handmade happiness. if you need a few reasons, check out these dates:
