#the100dayproject : handmade card 85/100-2 : smile my friend

happy wednesday friends!

today's spin on the inspiration wheel landed on sketch and it's been a little while since that topic came up! i have a small sized ring full of big ideas via various sketches that i created before the first round of the project that i pulled out to use. as usual, i asked siri to select a number to help me decide which sketch to use. this is the result:

A sketch from mft stamps in my inspirational book of ideas via various sketches.

this particular sketch is from mft stamps - i love how each week they have both a sketch and a color challenge. speaking of goals for next year as i mentioned in yesterday's post, i am looking forward to participating in more challenges next year - i really enjoy the way that they get me thinking outside the box! for this one, i decided to interpret the vertical lines near the bottom as strips of patterned paper and to turn the card sideways - so you know i had to incorporate a rainbow in one way or another!

Using a sketch as inspiration, I combined a rainbow of colors in a variety of patterned papers to fill the lower portion of the card front. A happy sentiment is stamped in black ink above a black horizontal strip of cardstock and reads "I smile a little bigger because you're my friend." It includes a plain white envelope and is sure to share some happiness.

using my stash, i pulled out two pads of patterned paper from sunny studio stamps - one with stripes and one with polka dots. these papers are mostly tone-on-tone patterns but i think that they all work so well together. plus, hello roygbiv love! i cut a 1/2" section of each one, as well as a 1/4" strip of solid black cardstock.

i stamped the sentiment near the top of the white card base and made sure it was centered. it reads "i smile a little bigger because you're my friend" in black ink. i think this is a wonderful sentiment that will make any recipient smile! it's from a newer set [to me] from mft and it just makes my heart happy.

An angled view of the card front - all the colors are visible in their vertical stripes and polka dotted or striped patterns. The sentiment is stamped in black ink which is very bold along the white open space. It reads "I smile a little bigger because you're my friend." and is sure to make the recipient smile. What a great way to share some happiness.

in a spin of design, i decided to start the rainbow on the left side with yellow instead of pink or red. it fades into greens, then aquas and blue before turning into purple, pink and red then orange. i didn't want the polka dots and stripes to be in an every-other pattern, so i randomly pulled the patterns while making sure i had one of every color. i did my best to make sure that the stripes lined up [because i'm still a little ocd] but more importantly, i just wanted the colors to flow from one to the next.

The flat-lay view of this friendship inspired handmade card shows a rainbow full of stripes and polka dots. The stamped sentiment reads "I smile a little bigger because you're my friend."

i think the combination of patterns plays a little trick on your eyes and makes them go a little catawampy, but overall i love the aesthetic of the design. plus, that sentiment is so happy and sharing happiness is so high on my list of favorite things.

for sure i'll be adding this to the online shop - i've got a bunch lined up to add, i've just been super busy with work as well as the typical holiday hustle and bustle. soon though friends, i promise!

85 days down, 15 to go!
